Ducati Monster S4R “Black Pearl” by South Garage

I was never a hardcore fan of the Monster looks (in this case – it’s an S4R version from 2004). I love the way it rides, the sound, the philosophy. But it doesn’t speak to me regarding the appearance. Even when approached by the artists from South Garage, You can still see that it’s trying to fix the stock tank, seat line… with moderate success.

Yes, the paint job, colour choice and reshaping the backbone do the job.

But it’s the mechanical details that are the most important

The clutch cover, old school muffler, fantastic exhaust welds. Stock wheels were replaced with custom-made spokes, with an amazing pattern.

The 996 ccs engine is a convincing powerplant even when stock. Producing 113 bhp, with the L-twin characteristic – this thing flies. But in this case: the cooling was upgraded, space-age materials arrived in the engine (magnesium and titanium), new valves, lighter flywheel, stronger water pump, titanium bolts. The result? 156 bhp!

Brakes were upgraded to Brembo SBK kit. The speedo unit is a single accessory dial from Motogadget. The rest of bodywork is lighter than the stock. There is only 1 single muffler. The weight figures are not known, but I’m quite sure it is way lighter than stock (not that the production version needs weight lost).

So all this means that it’s not just a candy looking toy. This thing is fast. Enjoy a very stylish photoshoot below.
