Lino Tonti’s timeless design is always my favourite choice of donor bike to write about. Kaffeemaschine appears like the best choice when it comes to customising Moto Guzzi motorcycles. They seem to be to the Italian brand what AMG is for Mercedes. A factory tuner of choice.
This build is as all of their builds: brilliant
It’s a perfect blend of the British definition of Cafe Racer style, with the Italian touch of design. My favourite thing about this particular Moto Guzzi codenamed as “912”, is the colour choice. Kaffeemaschine has a specific website design – where the featured images of their builds are black and white. You click them, and then You get to see the actual colour choice of the build. In this case – nothing would have changed if it wasn’t for the brown seat.
About the build. The donor bike – Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk2… is not the best looking child of this Italian factory. While I love the looks and the story behind the Mk1… The second generation was an obvious step back taken under the direction of De Tomaso. The mechanical side of the bike – is excellent. It was a definition of a sport-touring motorcycle. Fast, stable and race track proven. But the looks were a little disappointing.
Besides the looks…
which are actually on the performance side. As the fabricated panels, fenders and other components reduced the weight of the machine down to 186 kgs. Kaffeemaschine also decided to lose the brake discs on behalf of old fashioned drums. Front suspension was rebuilt and prepared to accommodate double duplex brake hub. The wheels are spoked (as You would expect with this type of brake conversion), wrapped around with old school rubbers.
The stock 850 ccs engine was upgraded to 1000 ccs. The carbs were rebuilt to work with the bigger displacement and velocity stacks (which were installed stock on Le Mans). The power output raised to 89 bhp.
The result is stunning.
Not just the lightweight looks (and actual weight reduction), but the absolute simplicity of the design, old school accents and the raw metal colour choice. Seems like a perfect build to me.
